Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs which serve children from birth to age five, pregnant women and their families. The programs are child-focused and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.

New Opportunities Outreach has a Family Development Center located in each of the counties we serve: Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie and Sac. We have staff that work with low income families on a daily basis to meet basic needs and develop their own capacity to do so.

Prevention

Prevention

Primary prevention protects the individual from ever experiencing problems with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and delays the onset by providing broad based community programs. These programs focus on education and are often paralleled in the schools and workplace. Secondary prevention identifies problems and high risk use of substances. The goal is to prevent future problems and provide prevention strategies that last a lifetime.

Weatherization

Weatherization

The weatherization program provides residential energy evaluations to determine how homes can be made safer and more comfortable.  Services are provided at no cost to reduce fuel usage and to lower the costs of heating bills. Weatherization services include, but are not limited to: insulation, air sealing, repair/replacement of furnaces and water heaters.  All services are completed by skilled workers and inspected by licensed professionals to ensure quality work is performed in making homes more energy efficient.
